Welcome to the homepage of the subject area "Rehabilitation and Education in the case of Intellectual Impairment".

The focus of our work is on people with intellectual impairment (so-called mental retardation) with their individual prerequisites and needs, in different phases of life and living spaces, taking into account their reference systems.
We are one of a total of three chairs in North Rhine-Westphalia that are active in this subject area. With over 160 students, we are the third largest department in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences. We train future rehabilitation scientists and special needs teachers. Our interdisciplinary team offers courses on school and extracurricular topics.
For us, research and teaching belong together and are linked in the best possible way. The latest findings are incorporated into the teaching content. Students are given the opportunity to participate in research projects (e.g. in the context of final theses or study projects). We use a broad range of research methods, including hermeneutic as well as qualitative and quantitative procedures.
On the following pages you will find information on the team, on teaching & studies, on research projects as well as on conferences & workshops of the department. Our address can be found under the heading "Contact/Approach". Current information (e.g. job advertisements) can be found under "Further information".
